Important Mindset Shift for Backcountry Travel

When we decide to leave the modern world behind for a few hours or a few days and head out into the backcountry, we are walking away from so many modern conveniences. Behind all these conveniences are many complex systems that provide a big safety net for our basic human needs (warmth, water, food and safety). When we venture into wild places we become responsible for our own basic human needs and we bring with us limited resources to make that happen.

That gear that we bring with us is a limited resource, we can’t just have Amazon deliver us a new lighter if we loose one. We need to change our mindset on how we view our resources. Everything we bring with us on a hike is much more valuable because we can’t replace it in the field.

So we need to conserve our resources and take care of our equipment. There is a saying take care of your gear and your gear will take care of you! So take a minute before your next hike and set your mind towards resource conservation and you will be that much more prepared!!
