RECON Kids Camp

RECON - Recreate Explore Connect

Wilderness skills camp that will get your child radically connected with nature!

Helping your kids connect with nature is tough!

Are you struggling to find meaningful ways to get your kids engaged with nature?

Do you want your child to learn wilderness survival skills like how to build a fire and use a compass but don’t know how to teach them?

Help your child take a break from the every day

Give your child a chance to detach from technology and spend 5 days deeply immersed in nature, learning new skills and gaining confidence and connection.

We know how it feels as parents to want your child to have a connection with nature, but struggling to help them build that connection in our fast paced modern world.

Our camp offers a safe and fun environment for kids to learn and play in the woods all the while, gaining confidence and appreciation for the natural world.

From cooking over an open fire to navigating by map and compass, building shelters, making rope, nature journaling and crafting using simple tools - we’re ready to ignite a passion for nature in every camper. Let the exploration begin!

  • Recreate (v) to give new life or freshness to

Giving kids an opportunity to be away from the complexities of the modern world and connect with the rhythms of nature.

  • Explore (v)

1 - to investigate, study, or analyze

2 - to travel over (new territory) for adventure or discovery

Curiosity will lead campers on their own journeys as they discover new skills and learn to unlock the stories of nature.

  • Connect (v) to become joined

People, especially kids, have an intrinsic need to connect with the natural world. Likewise, our wild places need people who care about them.

Our goal is to help kids connect with nature, through learning & play and by fostering a culture of curiosity.

Here is what some of our NWJ parents had to say:

“Our boys loved every aspect of the program. I appreciate the time it gives them outdoors and the confidence they build utilizing skills like fire-building, carving, navigating etc. They came home after each day tired, happy, and full of stories about what they did.”

“This was the perfect camp for our son. We were nervous as sometimes he hasn't been the most excited about the woods, but he really, really enjoyed himself this week and learned really valuable skills. Thanks for sharing your expertise!”

“Loved finding a camp that taught real knowledge and skills. And frankly, just a safe space for our son to run around and be a kid in the woods! Whether he remembers the specific information or not, giving my son a chance to gain knowlege about nature and how to behave in nature, created a sense of ease and confidence outdoors. Even after one week.

The real test was after going to camp 5 days in a row, his brothers wanted to discuss what they would watch on TV and he suggested they turn the TV off and play a game outside. Days after that he asked if we could spend the entire day outside, start to finish. Yes and yes. Summer camp a success. He'll be back next year.”

“My son LOVED attending RECON. His favorite things were learning to whittle and using a saw, but each day he came home excited to share what he had done and learned. I loved that he was excited to attend this camp before it even started, looked forward to camp everyday and on his last day, immediately asked to go next year. Has been telling everyone about it and the things he learned.”
