Immersion Through Craft

Crafting with natural materials is a major part of most of our classes and programs as it is a powerful tool to help connect people to nature. It requires skills and knowledge to produce a workable product with simple hand tools.  

Knowledge of the form and function of the final product, knowledge of the material, knowledge of the tools used.

There is also the practice of the physical skill that is required. The hands and body must learn the movements, and learn to feel and react to the material. 

We live in a world full of manufactured goods where we have outsourced the design and manufacturing of most of the things we use. However, there is something incredibly human about using simple hand tools to build something to solve a problem. That skill got us to where we are today. We must not forget.
