What are we teaching our kids about nature?
“Our Society is teaching young people to avoid direct experience in nature...well meaning public-school systems, media and parents are effectively scaring children straight out of the woods”
Richard Louv
Last Child in the Woods
Today it is a real challenge to get our kids out into nature and even harder to help them build a deep connection. We are not able to let our kids roam and explore the way parents did in the past. Exposure to nature today is generally limited to trails and public beaches. Kids are not given the opportunity to interact with nature or slow down and look curiously upon the nature that is right in their backyard.
There are lots of reasons that kids are not in nature, fear, convenience, lack of access, lack of knowledge or lack of interest.
The goal with our camps and classes help overcome these obstacles by giving people of all ages an opportunity to interact directly with nature, and for that experience to serve as a spark to help them grow their own connection with nature.
